I always remember his photographs – Musical express (before it beacme new) and his name made me smile. After hearing it however my view is that if you are new to classical music or have only a limited appreciation this set is an absolute must. Even those with a great deal of knowledge will find something new.<p>Instead of trying to collect 'the most famous bits' Naxos have provided an overview of a thousand years of music. Composers who a few years ago would have been considered obscure (Hidegard of Bingen, von Ditterdorf) or thought too 'avant garde' (Philip Glass) are included. </p><p>After hearing it you'll be certain to want to follow up many of the composers or their contemporaries.</p><p>The massive accompanying booklet is unpretentious and hugely helpful. Not being someone who usually enjoys compilations I approached this one with some caution. After hearing it however my view is that if you are new to classical music or have only a limited appreciation this set is an absolute must. Even those with a great deal of knowledge will find something new.

Instead of trying to collect ‘the most famous bits’ Naxos have provided an overview of a thousand years of music. Composers who a few years ago would have been considered obscure (Hidegard of Bingen, von Ditterdorf) or thought too ‘avant garde’ (Philip Glass) are included.

After hearing it you’ll be certain to want to follow up many of the composers or their contemporaries.

The massive accompanying booklet is unpretentious and hugely helpful. The performances are of Naxos’ usual exemplary standard, not outstanding but never tedious or too extreme in interpretation.

Overall, and at this price, about the best introductory compilation to classical music available.

Superb concert footage of AC/DC with Bon Scott at the helm. Ruined only by a poor soundtrack. AC/DC released this soundtrack on CD in their Bonfire Boxset, and we can but hope that this concert is re-released with the improved soundtrack attached at some point-apart from this gripe, sit back and enjoy the best rock and roll you can get.

I been an acdc fan for years and have about 14 of their albums.

This live performance is great and the music is probably the best live I’ve ever heard from them.

Why oh why has this not been remastered to improve the sound and re-released on dvd? I’m sure there are 10000s acdc fans that would snap up such a dvd….
