Beyonce Music Videos

Beyonce is known for her upbeat music and unique style which definitely shines through in her music videos. She was initially a part of “Destiny’s Child” which was immensely popular and released videos like “Survivor”, “8 days of Christmas”, “Lose my Breath” and “Say My Name” among others. Soon after they broke up, Beyonce began her solo career which was widely appreciated. Her first video as a solo artist was “Crazy in Love” which was an instant hit.

Other famous videos include “Beautiful Liar” which featured another popular singer as well. This video proved that Beyonce could not only sing beautifully but also dance as well. She made belly dancing seem easy and inspired young children to take up the dance form as well.

Beyonce is known to incorporate fashion into her videos on a frequent basis. A minute into the video of “Single Ladies” proves this point. The black and white background definitely complements her flexible moves and the simple outfits enhance the elegance of the entire video. During a recent talk show, Beyonce confirmed that she was inspired by Bob Fosse and used his style to create the entire look of the video. She said she saw the choreographer’s video on a popular video website which helped her to create the moves and vibe of the music video.

A large number of Beyonce’s videos feature Jay-Z including “Crazy in Love”, “Deja vu” and “Bonnie and Clyde”. The duo received a nomination during the Grammy awards as well. The fact that her albums are a success definitely contributes towards the success of her music videos as well. Due to these reasons, Beyonce has come to be known as one of the most popular and marketable artists in the industry today. Apart from music, Beyonce has also tried her hand in movies and product endorsements. Her first film was “Carmen: A Hip Hopera” in 2001 and 5 years later, she bagged the lead role in “Dreamgirls” and went on to win two nominations during the Golden Globe awards. To top it all, she also own a fashion line “House of Dereon” which was launched in 2004.

As a Beyonce fan, the good news is that her videos are not only easily available but can also be watched for free. This is made possible with the help of websites like YouTube. One can also download her videos with the help of iTunes and Torrent. Recently, she announced a $250000 prize for a fan who could come up with a music video inspired by “Single Ladies” which would then be shown during her tour.

Keeping in mind her acting career, endorsements and of course- her widely popular music videos, Beyonce is definitely on her way to become a legend. She has become a household name and VH1 features at least one Beyonce video on a daily basis. Her tours have always been sold out and have been immensely successful. The best part about her videos is that they are not based on a particular storyline like other music videos. They are simple and focus primarily on dancing and having fun.

Artists to Watch For 2009 – Part 1

So it’s been a long time coming, but I have finally put together a roster for you to see. As it stands, we are about halfway through 2009, and I’ve been keeping my eye out for artists making themselves a name around the country. Being the amazing person I am, I figured I would give you a look at some of these little gems dotting these great lands.

Later down the line, you’ll be saying I told you so when these artists make it to the top, with me always being right and all. I’m splitting this piece in three, so after reading this, keep your eyes peeled for part 2 and 3. Artists to Watch For ’09. We runnin’ this, let’s go.

The CunninLynguists- Lexington, Kentucky

Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky is one of my favorite rap groups to date. The CunninLynguists (cleverly named after one of my favorite sports) have been rapping about the poor life, raising a family, deceitful women, and a little bit of Mary Jane, since their 2001 release Will Rap for Food.

Specifically, listen for the tracks Move, Don’t Leave (When Winter Comes),and The Distance, to get a real feel of the groups talent, with White Guy Mind Tricks being the funniest track I’ve heard in a while. They are also known for their incorporation of lovely samples of Motown records, and live instruments.

Some Hear Explosions- Los Angeles, California

One of the hardest things to accept is too go to a live show of one of your favorite bands, only to learn that they are MUCH shitter upon doing so. Thankfully, this band knows how to up the ante at the live shows, and leave you with ringing ears and a smile on your face, mixed with a sore-ass neck from rocking too hard.

Los Angeles rock band Some Hear Explosions has played it quite smart in the music game since the drummer (and long time friend) Alex Duddy told me about his latest. I’m not sure exactly how (yet, as I want to do an interview hah) they did it, but the band is managed by none other than Idris Elba. You may remember him from his role as Tango in American Gangster, Charles Miner in NBC’s The Office, and my favorite, Mumbles from RocknRolla. Apparently this is his first managing gig. Who knew?

Ashthon Jones- Nashville, Tennessee

Why is she a crossover diva? First, it has nothing to do with basketball, rather with her ability to bring R&B, Hip Hop, Soul, Pop, and a little bit of Funk to here arsenal for us to interpret. She’s got some pretty serious people standing behind her; such as Doug Colton (head of Dee Cee records) and Yolanda Geralds (hip hop video director).

I really like creating and performing uplifting feel-good music and inspiring people to be happy and live life. I feel that my voice is a gift from God; so is my talent. There is sweetness, as well as a rawness about me that I think anybody can relate to and I hope that Introducing Ashthon Jones definitely touches lives.

History of Beyonce’s Career

beyonceBeyonce Giselle Knowles was born September 4th, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Matthew and Tina Knowles as the first born of two girls. Before she reached the age of seven she was singing and showing signs of great talent. When she was seven, she was already attending dance school and was a soloist in the church choir.

By the time she reached her teen years, any spare time she could find was spent with her childhood pals, LaTayia Roberson, Kelly Rowland and LeToya Luckett, performing at local functions. The girls, then known as “Girl’s Tyme” tried their luck at Star Search but did not make the cut. Beyonce’s Dad gave up his good paying job in order to devote his time promoting the band. To this day Matthew Knowles manages his daughter’s career.

After trying a few different names, the girls settled on Destiny’s Child. The musical debut for the group was the song “Killing Time”, which appeared on the soundtrack for the “Men in Black” movie, released in 1997. A year later, they had number one single with the song, “No,No,No, Part 2.” The quartet became a trio later on that same year with the departure of LeToya and LaTayia, who decided to pursue individual careers. Destiny’s Child continued onwards and became one of the top R&B/Pop groups in 2000 accumulating four Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and numerous top ten hits, as well as two albums that went to number one.

The group’s second album continued with great success with tracks like “Say My Name,” “Jumpin’ Jumpin,’” and the very successful “Bug A Boo.” In the 2001, two Grammy awards were given to “Say My Name”. They followed up with a third album, “Survivor,” which produced such hits as the title track as well as “Bootylicious”. The group decided to disband by 2005 but had at that time proven themselves as one of the top selling female groups in music history.

Beyonce had proven her worth and skills as a songwriter. She won the 2001 Songwriter of the Year, awarded by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Pop Music Awards. This made her the first African-American woman to win the award and only the second woman to win. She also spent a bit of time working on solo projects which at first was not as successful as the projects with the trio, but she was not easily discouraged.

When she finally released her solo debut album, “Dangerously in Love”, it went right to the top selling over 300,000 copies in just the first week and went platinum 3 weeks later, in June of 2003. The single from the album,”Crazy in Love” topped the charts and stayed there for over 8 weeks. Later that same year her album and the single topped the charts at the same time which put her on the same level as such musical wonders as The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Rod Stewart. She was and still is the only female artist to have accomplished this feat. This helped make Beyonce one of the biggest artists in both sales and popularity for 2003.

In 2004 she won five Grammy Awards. On the Destiny’s Child album released in 2005, Beyonce released a song called “Check on It,” which was used on the soundtrack of “The Pink Panther Movie,” released in 2006.

In correspondence with her 25th birthday, she released a second album called “B’day,” which sold more than her first solo album, with 541,000 copies sold in the first week after release. The lead single from the album, “Deja Vu,” became a number one hit on the US R&B charts.

Not only has Beyonce had success in music, but also on the movie screen. She may be best known for the character Foxy Cleopatra in the 2002 summer movie, “Austin Powers in Goldmember” along side Michael Caine and Mike Myers. In 2003 she appeared beside Cuba Gooding Jr. in the movie “The Fighting Temptations”. In 2006, she got chance to pay homage to Diana Ross in a movie based on a Broadway musical depicting the lives of the Supremes. Beyonce showed off her incredible acting skills, playing the part of Ms. Ross in the Movie titled, “Dreamgirls”, which opened with first weekend sales of $8 million and has grossed well over $100 million to date.

Beyonce’s talent has shown no end in sight and her fans are looking forward to see what is yet to come.

Beyonce Takes on the Role of the Iconic Etta James

A recent marriage, an album and now a movie on the way for Beyonce, is there anything she can’t do? The pop star’s cover of Etta James’ iconic “At Last” will be the lead song for the upcoming soundtrack for Cadillac Records which will debut Dec. 2 via Columbia. The film chronicles the rise and fall of famed label Chess Records and Beyonce stars as James. Beyonce told Billboard about the experience, saying: “I realized that Etta James was so unapologetic, bold and strong that playing her was a big risk for me. It gave me the confidence and the push to challenge myself a little more with my music.”

The soundtrack also includes tracks from Mos Def (portraying Chuck Berry), Columbus Short (as Little Walter), Jeffrey Wright (as Muddy Waters) and Eamonn Walker (as Howlin’ Wolf). The album, which will be available in both single- and double-disc versions, also boasts songs from Mary Mary, Nas, Buddy Guy, Elvis Presley, Raphael Saadiq and Beyonce’s sister Solange. Cadillac Records makes its big screen debut Dec. 5 and Sony BMG Music Entertainment chairman Andrew Lack, who produced the film with Sony BMG films executive VP Sophia Sondervan says it will show a different side of the pop diva. “People will be most surprised that the glamorous Beyonce allowed herself to be seen in the desperate straits that Etta went through, including her heroin addiction. That’s a Beyonce I don’t think anyone’s seen yet.”

The public was first introduced to Beyonce when she was part of Destiny’s Child, the group formerly known as Girl Tyme that she formed with her cousin Kelly Rowland and school friends LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett in her native Houston. The quartet burst into the R&B/pop mainstream with “No, No, NO,” off their eponymous debut album is 1997 and their breakthrough came two years later with The Writings on the Wall. The album spawned radio mainstays “Jumpin’ Jumpin’,” “Bills Bills Bills,” “Bug a Boo” and “Say My Name,” which earned Destiny’s Child two Grammy awards. Despite the girl group’s fast-paced ascent to stardom, Luckett and Roberson left the group and were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin (who would leave the group within a year).

In 2000 the trio released the girl-powered single “Independent Women Pt. 1″ on the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack and their subsequent album, 2001′s Survivor, went straight to the top of the charts thanks to “Bootylicious” (yes, the term is actually in the dictionary thanks to Beyonce). Long-since the leading lady of Destiny’s Child, Beyonce dipped into the acting pool with a starring role in the MTV “hip-hopera” Carmen and a spot alongside Mike Myers in the Austin Powers sequel, for which she recorded her first solo song, “Work It Out,” that was included on the soundtrack. “03 Bonnie & Clyde,” another solo single featuring then-rumored beau and now-husband Jay-Z was followed by Beyonce’s solo album debut, 2003′s Dangerously in Love. The album won five Grammys thanks to popular singles like “Baby Boy” and “Crazy in Love” and then Destiny’s Child reunited for their last album. The aptly titled Destiny Fulfilled spawned hits “Soldier” and “Lose My Breath” and all three girls went on to pursue solo work, with Beyonce starring in 2006′s Dreamgirls and releasing her sophomore solo record, B’Day, in 2006. Beyonce is set to release her third solo album in November and singles “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” are already creating buzz. So hurry up and get your Beyonce tickets soon because this talented diva is sure to pack arenas when she hits the road.

2009 Tour For Beyonce

Beyonce has just announced plans for a 2009 tour in support of her upcoming yet-to-be-titled album, which hits stores Nov. 18. Jay-Z’s wife and R&B’s leading lady will play international dates in spring 2009 before coming back to play shows in North America early next summer.

Beyonce Giselle Knowles began singing, dancing and displaying her emerging diva as a young girl growing up in Houston, Texas. Beyonce and her cousin Kelly Rowland and two friends LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett formed a girl group in high school. The quartet signed to Columbia Records in 1997 after changing their name from Girl Tyme to Destiny’s Child, and released their eponymous debut soon after. While the album’s lead single, “No, No, No” was hit, Destiny’s Child really hit the big time with 1999′s The Writings on the Wall thanks to the popularity of “Bug a Boo,” “Jumpin’ Jumpin’,” “Bills Bills Bills” and “Say My Name,” which rewarded the girl group with two Grammy’s.

As Destiny’s child continued its ascent to stardom, Luckett and Roberson were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Franklin only lasted with the group for a year and Destiny’s Child became a solid trio with Beyonce (who had dropped the “Knowles” by now) at the helm. In 2000 the girl-powered anthem “Independent Woman Pt. 1″ was featured on the soundtrack for Charlie’s Angels. The track also appeared on the group’s sophomore album, Survivor, which soared to number one on the charts and included the single whose name launched a national catchphrase, “Bootylicious.” Beyonce dipped her toes in the acting pool in 2001, starring in the MTV “hip-hopera” Carmen and co-starring in the sequel to the big screen blockbuster Austin Powers. Beyonce’s first solo single, “Work It Out” (which was featured on the Austin Powers sequel soundtrack) was followed by the scorching single “03 Bonnie & Clyde,” a duet with her then-rumored fling and now confirmed husband Jay-Z. (The couple somehow pulled off a quiet wedding 2008 in spite of generous media buzz around their relationship.)

In 2003 Beyonce released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, and watched as it climbed the charts to number one thanks to the infectious “Crazy in Love” and “Baby Boy,” a duet with Sean Paul. After securing five Grammys for her solo effort, Beyonce returned to Destiny’s Child for the group’s last effort: 2004′s Destiny Fulfilled. The trio went out with a bang due to the popularity of “Lose My Breath” and “Soldier” and Beyonce’s solo star continued to rise; she appeared alongside Steve Martin in The Black Panther and starred in 2006′s blockbuster Dreamgirls. That year Beyonce also released her sophomore solo album, B’Day, and the popularity of “Deja vu,” “Irreplaceable” and “Ring the Alarm” earned the songstress a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B album.

Beyonce’s upcoming yet-to-be-titled album, her third solo effort, will be released Nov. 18 on the heels of the album’s singles “Single Ladies” and “If I Were a Boy” and her 2009 tour will have fans undoubtedly clamoring for Beyonce tickets once they go on sale.
