X Factor 2010 Semi Final Club Classics Night
It’s semi finals week and I’ve been looking forward to a great show. The final 5 all have to sing a club classic and a get me to the final song. This is what I thought of the acts:
Rebecca Ferguson
Rebecca started off the night’s performances with one of my all time favourites Show Me Love. She sang it brilliantly but still not much movement from her even though it’s an upbeat song.
Rebecca’s second song choice was Amazing Grace. I would have liked to see her singing something more up to date but this was a beautiful version of a beautiful song.
Mary Byrne
Mary’s performance of the Gloria Gaynor classic ‘Never Can Say Goodbye’ was great, she even moved about a bit more than Rebecca.
‘The Way You Were’ was Mary’s second choice. I didn’t like that performance as much as her first one. The song is dated and just didn’t seem right in the X Factor semis.
Matt Cardell
Matt’s performance of ‘You’ve Got The Love’ was good considering that he has been ill all week and thought that he wouldn’t be able to sing.
Matt’s second song was ‘She’s Always A Woman’, a bit ropey but still a lovely version. Surely Matt will make the final.
Cher
Cher’s performance of ‘Nothin’ On You’ was almost my favourite so far until the rapping started. I know that rapping is where she is at but she has an incredible voice when she purely sings and I would have loved to hear more singing.
I didn’t like Cher’s performance of ‘Love The Way You Lie’. I don’t think that it was a very good choice for her.
One Direction
Took on Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl In The World’ and gave the first performance that I’ve ever really enjoyed. It was a great song choice, perfect for them.
The last song of the night was One Direction singing ‘Chasing Cars’. I liked this performance too, I think that they have done much better this week than any other week.
My Bottom Two
Cher and Mary
Who Do I think Will Win
Rebecca

For a change I got it right, Cher and Mary were in the bottom two and in the sing off.
Mary sang first and gave a stunning performance of ‘It’s A Man’s World’. The absolute right choice for me, I love this song and it shows Mary’s voice off perfectly.
Cher fought back but in my opinion not hard enough. However I expected her to get through because the song is more contemporary.
The final 4 acts:
- Rebecca Ferguson
- Matt Cardell
- One Direction
- Cher
X Factor 2010 – Rock Week
Rock week is usually my favourite week so I’m looking forward to tonights show. The gossip and controvosy has been as high as ever this week, guaranteeing more views I should think. The most annoying to me was to hear that Wagner is on the sick for a frozen shoulder, frozen throat more like. All that dancing and doesn’t he do karate?
Wagner
Wagner started the show with the aptly named Creep from Radiohead. I hate to say this but that was his best performance so far. On his own without masses of dancers, no cavorting around the stage like an overstuffed turkey, the singing improved too.
Back to mediocrity with Addicted To Love from Robert Palmer. The absolute direst performance of this track that I have ever heard.
One Direction
Sang Summer Of 69 by Bryan Adams. I enjoyed their performance but I still don’t get them. I’ve heard dozens of pub groups sing that and found their performances more in tune and more stirring. Sorry boys I’ve got to be honest.
You Are So Beautiful from Joe Cocker was One Direction’s second choice. It was good but as Louis said it isn’t a rock song.
Mary Byrne
All I Want Is You from U2 was Mary’s first choice. I love U2, when I hear them singing this track I get shivers down my spine. I thought that Mary’s version was boring until just before the end when she really began to rock, but maybe it’s unfair to make comparisons with one of my favourite bands.
Mary’s second song choice was Brass In Pocket from The Pretenders. A really gutsy performance and didn’t she look good. A bit karaoke but I enjoyed it.
Cher Lloyd
Sang Girlfriend from Avril Lavigne. I enjoyed her high energy performance, probably the most entertaining so far.
Cher ended the show with Walk This Way by Run DMC and Aerosmith. It was lively and full of fun but I didn’t think it a particularly good version.
Rebecca Ferguson
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For from U2 was Rebecca’s first choice. One of my all time favourites and I thoroughly enjoyed this haunting version.
I Can’t Get No Satisfaction from the Rolling Stones was Rebecca’s second choice. Wow she rocked. Her best performance so far I think and her version was much better than the Stones version.
Matt Cardell
Sang I Love Rock’n Roll from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Matt looked better with his clothes on this week. His performance was great but he isn’t a rock singer.
Nights In White Satin by the Moody Blues was Matt’s second choice. A beautiful version of a beautiful song.
Katie Waisel
Not the greatest performance of Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon that I’ve seen, though it showed that Katie can sing rock.
Katie’s second song was Everybody Hurts from REM and what a great choice. She put a lot of feeling into her performance and made it believable.
Best performance of the night: Matt Cardell – Nights in White Satin
Best Double Performance: Rebecca Ferguson
Worst performance of the week: Wagner – Addicted to Love
Who Will Be Booted – I think that Cher and Wagner will be in the bottom 2 this week and that hopefully Wagner will be booted. As it’s a double vote off I think that those two are the most likely to go based on tonights performances. If it’s based on popularity then it could be entirely different. I wouldn’t be surprised if Katie isn’t in the bottom 2 again.
These are my opinions, if you agree or disagree please leave a comment.

Wow Justin Bieber was amazing, a great example for One Direction.
Katie got the fewest votes and had to leave without another sing off. Mary and Wagner ended up in the sing off to choose the second to leave this week. I was almost right but what the heck.
The look on the faces of Simon and Louis when Cher got through was a mixture of surprise, shock and realisation that their remaining acts were at risk.
The Sing Off
Wagner was up first singing another aptly names song ‘Unforgettable’. His performance was better than most of the ones we’ve seen over the weeks, almost as good as a pub singer.
Mary gave a pretty good performance of ‘This Is My Life’. Good enough to stay in, but not good enough to win the competition. Cruelly they went to Louis first to choose between his 2 acts, as all the others he chose Wagner to go and thank goodness for that.
Lets hope what next week will bring pure talent and entertainment and less scandal and gossip.
X Factor 2010 Review – Beatles Week
Wow what a week for gossip and sensationalism. Wagner and Matt had a big bust up. Mary has moved out of the shared house, so has Katie, Cher isn’t speaking to anybody and somebody left the shower on and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. That was what the newspapers were saying anyway and you can’t buy publicity like that.
Anyway on to this week the Beatles song week. Instead of writing my review the day after I’m going to have a change and write it as the show happens. First of all:
Matt Cardell – Come Together
Showed some versatility at last except for his white vest, sort of thing my dad wore with his pyjama bottoms back in the 60s and oh dear Simon thought that he looked like he’d been dragged off the loo – true. As far as the performance went it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t a performance of a winner.
Cher Lloyd – Imagine
I love this song and it’s never failed to give me goose bumps until tonight. Cher sang it well, probably one of her best performances but this little girl with a big voice just didn’t do this massive hit justice, but can a 17 year old?
One Direction – All You Need Is Love
So far I haven’t been able to see why there is so much excitement about this very young boy band and I still can’t. A bland but competent performance, but this song is one of the original pop anthems, a crowd stirrer. That didn’t happen until after they finished and the girls in the audience were screaming.
Rebecca Ferguson – Yesterday
I would have loved to have said “Another cracking performance” from Rebecca. After a very shaky start she picked herself up and it was a good performance but not great. As always she looked great, so classy but I don’t think it was the right song choice for her.
Mary Byrne – Something
Out of everybody I absoulutely expected Mary to do well with this beautiful song, an excellent choice. For the first time for me Mary looked and acted the part, probably because her confidence was there and yes she did do well, the best so far this evening.
Paije Richardson – Let It Be
When I saw this song choice for Paige I though ‘crap, Danni has done it again’. I was wrong. There was some slight timing issues but as the song went on and as he built confidence, his soulful voice and great performance put him right back on the map. He was dressed pretty natty as well.
Wagner Carrilho – Mash up of Get Back, Hippy Hippy Shake and Hey Jude
Will somebody please put him out of his misery. I’ve seen and heard better karaoke performances. He was out of tune but when was he ever in tune. I don’t get him at all, he is not entertaining. Cheryl had a go at him for being catty about her in the press and good for her. Please stop voting for him, far more talented singers are being voted out and surely they have more of a chance of success.
Katie Waissel – Help
I wasn’t sure what I thought of this song choice, but I’m not sure about her either. Her new haircut suited her and made her look like a different person. Her performance was brilliant, her version of Help was the best cover I’ve ever heard and perhaps better than the original and that’s really saying something.
My favourite of the night
Katie Waissel – Help
Looks the part
Rebecca Ferguson
Which would I buy
A tie between Katie’s Help and Paije’s Let It Be
Should be voted out - Wagner Carrilho, his performance was the worst and has been every week.
Despite some of my favourites not being as good as normal this week I still enjoyed the show. Perhaps my expectations were a little too high when realistically there are few who can sing Beatles songs anywhere near as well as the originals, but there were some nice surprises too.
The Sing Off And Results
This show is getting ridiculous, Cher and Paije in the last 2 when the slimy untalented Wagner gets through to the next show. The X Factor is becoming a travesty, gossip, falling out, and a joke being supported over talent.
Paije Richardson sang ‘Stop’ and gave an excellent performance to a song that well suited his soulful voice.
Cher Lloyd gave a powerful performance of ’Stay’ again and it became a foregone conclusion afer the first few seconds.
I felt so sorry for those 2 talented youngsters while they were waiting for the verdict, but somebody had to go and it was my favourite Paije, who was the most gracious to be voted out yet. I’m absolutely sure that Paije has got a great future ahead of him, now I’ve got a feeling that the rest of this series of the X Factor is going to be boring without him.
Note. I was absolutely disgusted to see the headlines in a Sunday tabloid I do not give a monkeys what any of the contestants relatives do for a living, it’s none of my business, nor is it anbody elses business. It’s because of that sick sort of journalism that I stopped buying newspapers years ago.
These are my personal views. What did you think of the show? Please let us know in the comments.

Joe McElderry The 2009 UK X Factor Winner
Who would have thought a few months back that this 18 year old fresh faced singer from South Shields would win the 2009 X Factor final? Not me anyway. After the auditions I sort of favoured Jamie Afro, that was based on his great performance of Sex on Fire. Problem was that Jamie never set the stage on fire again so my attention turned to Miss Frank. This girlband was 3 contestants who were encouraged to form a group after they failed to get through to bootcamp. They were great, original and interesting and I’m sure will have a good future if they stay together.
I always liked runner up Ollie Murs, he is a great performer though I didn’t think that his singing voice was the best. Up until the last 3 weeks I would have chosen Olly over Joe because his performances entertained me more. Then I saw that Joe had constantly improved and that his confidence was growing. Suddenly young Joe McElderry was beginning to look like a contender. His voice is probably the best of all of the contestants with perhaps the exception of Danyl Johnson who came fourth.
In third place was Stacy Solomon, the Dagenham girl with the big voice. She never really did it for me until the last show where she sang the Freddie Mercury classic ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ and performed a duet with Michael Buble. That duet was something else and to me was better than the Ollie Murs/Robbie Williams duet and the Joe McElderry/George Michael duet – to be honest I was disappointed in George Michael and thought that Joe outsang him.
The final was one of the most entertaining shows that I have ever seen and included a performance by Sir Paul McCartney, the most successful singer songwriter ever. When the X Factor finalists joined him on the stage it must have been massive for them – or epic as Olly says.
Congratulations to Joe, a very worthy winner. Congratulations to Cheryl Cole who mentored her second winner in a row. Congratulations to all of the other finalists who never failed to entertain during the best X Factor year yet.
I love Joe Mc Elderry t shirt
