Lil Wayne – A Biography

Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., on September 27, 1982, Lil Wayne lived his early childhood years in the town of Hollygrove in New Orleans, USA. Even at an early age he was enrolled in the gifted programs in his elementary school. By the time he was attending secondary school he was an active member in the drama club and well on his way to making his mark on the world.

By the time Lil Wayne was 11 years old, he had met the owner of Cash Money Records and began a relentless campaign of phone messages containing freestyle rap on Bryan Williams’s answering machine. Eventually, Williams relented and mentored the boy, giving him the opportunity to record under his label.

At the young age of 12 the young rapper accidentally shot himself in the chest, luckily surviving but his attitude had changed and he later that year dropped out of school. He has since realized the importance of having his education and so has returned to complete his GED studies.

He first performed in 1997 as part of the group, Hot Boys which included such names as Turk, Juvenile and B.G., but Lil Wayne was the youngest of the group being only 15 at that time. Their debut album was released in 1997, titled “Get It How You Live!” and was followed up in 1999 with “Guerilla Warfare.” A series of unreleased rap music tracks were released in 1999 and 2000 on an album “Let ‘Em Burn.” By 2003, the band went their separate ways and Lil Wayne, who had released a solo album in 1998, continued to focus on his own career.

His albums from 1998 onwards began with his debut solo album titled “Tha Block Is Hot,” which came onto the charts at number three and hit platinum status very shortly thereafter. Other albums that followed were “Lights Out,” “500 Degreez,” and “Tha Carter.” The later of these albums was considered to be a huge step forward for the young rappers career and music style.

Following “Tha Carter” was “Tha Carter II”, in 2005 and sold over 200,000 copies during the first week on the shelves. That same year Lil Wayne became the president of Cash Money Enterprises and during that same year he founded Young Money Entertainment. By 2007, he relinquished his roles in both companies. He went to work on his next album but towards the end of the recording four tracks were leaked, so as a result, he released an album in the interim by the name of “The Leak” and followed it up shortly thereafter with his original album, “Tha Carter III.” This album also did very well selling over a million copies in its first week of release in June of 2008.

On Valentines Day in 2004, Lil Wayne married Toya Johnson, his high school sweetheart, but the marriage was short-lived and the couple divorced in 2006. They did have a daughter; Reginae Carter and Lil Wayne also has a son, Dwayne Carter III, born on October 22, 2008, but the identity of the mother of his son, was never released.

The rapper also enrolled in university at the University of Huston in 2005 with plans of majoring in Political Science and had been taking several online courses to earn his degree. By the end of 2007, in spite of earning high grades in his courses, Lil Wayne discontinued his classes, but he does plan to eventually return to his studies.

Lil Wayne’s biography is a fascinating story. We can expect more exciting tales to follow about this hot star.

Nickelback – The Real Story

These days, if you look up Nickelback online, you’ll find plenty of places to download music videos and listen to the band. Their beginnings were less than auspicious, however. This Canadian band was started up by four musicians, Chad, Brandon and Mike Kroeger and Ryan Peake, in Alberta. Their first album was an extended play disc called Hesher in 1996. Later that same year, they released a full length album that basically flopped. The album, Curb, produced a single, “Fly”, that never made it to any charts and was circulated only in the local area on radio stations.

Despite the disappointment of their first recordings, the men of Nickelback went on to record The State, their second album, just two years later. This time, they struck gold and were given a record contract with EMI and Roadrunner Records. Their second album was re-released as a EMI/Roadrunner production in 2000, four years after their first album flopped and this time it hit gold, literally, in both the United States and in Canada.

It wasn’t until Silver Side Up, the third full length album for the band, that they finally hit the mainstream market and became popular with the general public. The single from that album, “How You Remind Me” hit the top of the charts across the board in the US and Canada and became the Billboard Hot 100 number one single of the year, a prestigious title to have. The second single from the album, “Too Bad”, also did very well.

Over the next few years, the band had great luck, releasing two more albums. Their main issues were with their drummers, first Brandon was replaced by Michael Guindon, who was replaced by Ryan Vikedal, a friend of Ryan Peake (Nickelback’s lead guitarist). Finally, in 2005, Vikedal was replaced by Daniel Adair who is still the drummer currently.

Interesting Nickelback Trivia
The band got its name from something Mike Kroeger used to say frequently when handing change to his customers while working at Starbucks,”Here’s your nickel back.”

While the lead singer, guitarist and bass player remain the same, the band has gone through at least four drummers. Ryan Vikedal, the drummer before current musician Daniel Adair, claims he was forced out of the band.
Chad Kroeger, lead singer and rhythme guitarist for the band, performed “Hero”, the Spiderman theme song along with Josey Scott.

If you download music videos of the hit Nickelback song of “Someday”, you can see the production crew walking around in the background of the video.

The song “Figured You Out” was placed on the list of Top 100 Worst Love Songs, compiled by VH1 . . . despite the fact that it’s not even a love song, but only discusses the involvement of love.

Nickelback songs have been used in several big movies, including The Scorpion King (“Yanking My Heart Out”) and Daredevil (“Learn the Hard Way”).

Silver Side Up was an extremely popular album, but not necessarily in the expected countries. While it went five times platinum in the US, the album went double platinum in Australia of all places. Incidentally, their music video for “See You at the Show” was filmed in Australia. They are particularly popular with the Aussies, it seems . . . the album, The Long Road, hit triple platinum in the same country.

Nickelback has had its fair share of problems with finding a drummer to stick around and was off to a rough start at the beginning. Nowadays, though, their music videos and albums are more popular than ever and they have a worldwide audience . . . not bad for a bunch of Canucks!

Discography of Eminem

Marshall Mathers was born in St. Joseph, a small town just outside Kansas City, MO. Marshall spent most of his early life between St. Joseph and Detroit, living in near poverty conditions. He was deeply attracted to rap music by the time he reached his teen years, and at the age of 14 was performing raps in his friend’s basement. The two pals billed themselves as Manix and M&M which, was soon changed to Eminem (the name originally was formed from his initials). Because of the racial boundaries that were placed in front of him as a white rapper he took to the underground rapping as a battle rapper in clubs. He eventually became a popular performer and discovered that he was the rapper to beat.

50 Cent – The King of Hip-Hop?

50 Cent is a pretty big name, though best known by rap fans who like to watch music videos, but it wasn’t always that way. Born Curtis Jackson III in 1975 to a fifteen year old cocaine dealer, he had every chance of ending up just another statistic. Like many in his neighborhood of South Jamaica in Queens, 50 Cent didn’t even know his father.

In 1983, when Curtis was just 8 years old, he was orphaned and sent to live with his grandparents where he quickly began to hang out in the street. At the age of eleven, he began boxing, a pastime that would later lead him to compete in the Junior Olympics. Despite his promise in the area of boxing, Curtis took up his mother’s profession, drug dealing, at the age of twelve and continued this for many years. His grandparents figured he was in after-school programs, when really he was out selling drugs on the street.

50 Cent began his rapping career in 1996 when he met Jam Master Jay through a friend and learned some valuable songwriting techniques. Over the next few years, he recorded an album with Jam Master Jay Records which was never released and continued to learn about rapping and recording. He was signed to Columbia Records in 1999 and went on to record 36 songs in two weeks for them. 18 of those were used on his very first publicly released album, Power of the Dollar, which came out in 2000.

Interesting 50 Cent Trivia
The young man was arrested the first time for possession of a firearm in tenth grade and three weeks later, he was arrested again after a search turned up heroin, cocaine and a gun in his apartment. Rather than serve the 6-9 year sentence, Curtis was sent to a boot camp where he completed his GED.

He adopted the name “50 Cent” after a notorious robber in the 80′s named Kelvin Martin. To him, the name symbolized the change he made after his arrests.

His son, Marquis Jackson, was born in 1997 and 50 Cent credits him with being the reason he changed his life.
In 2000, he was shot nine times at close range. He spent 13 days in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds in his hand, arm, face, hip, chest and legs. The shooting caused Columbia Records to drop him like a hot potato and he was blacklisted in the industry. He also lost the chance to do some music videos while he recovered.

His mother was murdered at the age of 23 when 50 Cent was 8, after someone drugged her drink and turned on the gas in her house, shutting all the windows and leaving her to die.

The rapper is infamous for his dissing of other rappers. Piggy Bank is one of his many tunes that puts down others in his industry and despite reconciliation with some of them, he has no shortage of enemies. His notoriety in this area has caused many fans to download music videos of his infamous diss songs.

50 Cent didn’t stop with rapping, he’s branched out in a number of entrepreneurial pursuits, including vitamin water, a line of clothing called G-Unit Clothing, video games, body spray and condoms. He has also acted in several movies including one based on his song “Get Rich or Die Trying” and has written a memoir and co-written a novel.

From a kid from the hood to a full blown entrepreneur and famous rapper, 50 Cent has come a long way. Though he has his detractors, no one can deny the man is driven!
