What is Lil Wayne’s Real Name?

Lil Wayne is an American Grammy Award-winning rapper who became one of the top-selling artists in late 2000. Also known as “Weezy Baby” he is one of the most talented, controversial, and famous rappers in the world. His freestyle abilities in singing, his unique songs, fantastic lyrics, and rhythmic hip-hop have made him a celebrated rapper.

Lil Wayne was born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. on September 27, 1982. He grew up in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. In a CBS interview with Katie Couric, Wayne described why he uses the name of “Wayne” instead of his birth name, Dwayne. He explained, “I dropped the D because I’m a junior and my father is living and he’s not in my life and he’s never been in my life. So I don’t want to be Dwayne, I’d rather be Wayne.” Katie Couric asked Wayne if his father knew and Wayne replied, “He knows now.”

Lil Wayne’s biological father left him when he was just a baby. He did have a stepfather who died when he was young. Lil Wayne found a father figure in Cash Money millionaire Birdman (aka Baby) who took him under his wing. Lil Wayne recorded freestyle raps on Birdman’s answering machine to get his attention. Lil Wayne calls Birdman “daddy” because he mentored him since the age of 11. Birdman was the one who brought him into the rap world. He would eventually help Lil Wayne launch his rap career.

Lil Wayne began rapping at block parties when he was a child. He wrote his first rap song at age 8. He began his career as a member of rap group, The Hot Boys, but he is especially known for his stellar solo career. His solo debut, “Tha Block is Hot,” went double platinum. Lil Wayne’s career surged with the release of 2008′s “Tha Carter III .” The album featured several hits including “A Milli,” “Mr. Carter” and “Lollipop.” In 2005, “Tha Carter” was followed by “Tha Carter II”. It sold over 200,000 copies during the first week. Lil Wayne then became the president of Cash Money Enterprises and during that same year he founded Young Money Entertainment. By 2007, he handed over his responsibilities of the companies. He began to work on his next album but four tracks were leaked, and as a result, he released a short-term album by the name of “The Leak” and followed it up with his original album, “Tha Carter III”. The album was a hit selling over a million copies in its first week. In 2008, Lil Wayne was the frontrunner in Grammy nominees, with eight nominations.

Lil Wayne has two children. His first child, Reginae Carter, was born when he was a teenager with high school girlfriend Antonia “Toya” Carter. Carter and Lil Wayne married on Valentines Day of 2004 and divorced in 2006. On October 22, 2008, his son, Dwayne Carter III, was born at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He had his third child with actress, Lauren London.

Many musical artists made their careers a success by using music videos. As an important part of the music industry, music videos not only showcase an artist’s singing talent, but also how they perform. The history of music videos shows how the use of the videos transformed the music industry.

Premiering in 1974, the Australian TV show ‘Countdown’ played an important role in the development of the music video industry. Music video clips were used as a method of promoting acts that were to appear on the show. As the popularity of the video clips grew, the music industry began to realize the marketing potential of these music clips. One of the most notable video clips features was the AC/DC hit, “It’s A Long Way to the Top.” During the 1980s, ‘Countdown’ aired in 22 countries.

In 1980, the New Zealand group Split Enz became one of the first bands to create an entire set of music promo clips and market them on video cassette for each song on their album, ‘True Colors.’

Predating MTV by almost three years, ‘Video Concert Hall,’ was the first nationwide video music program on American television. Premiering in June 1981, one of the first US programs to play music videos was the USA Cable Network program ‘Night Flight.’ Night Flight predated MTV’s launch by just a few months.

In 1981, the U.S. video channel MTV was launched and it began the age of 24-hour music television. They launched the channel with the video, “Video Killed the Radio Star.” Throughout the 1980s, MTV expanded to become an important tool used in music marketing. Singers like Madonna not only used music videos to promote their albums, but to create their images. In 1983, the almost 14-minute-long video for Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller,” was released. It became the world’s most successful and influential video in music video history.

In 1985, MTV launched the channel VH1 which featured softer music for an older audience than the typical young MTV audience. In 1987, MTV Europe was launched and in 1991, MTV Asia was introduced.

In 1988, the MTV show, Yo! MTV Raps was launched. The show helped to bring hip hop music to a nation wide audience. Two of the videos that are most famous for being two of the three most expensive music videos of all time are Michael and Janet Jackson’s “Scream,” which cost $7 million to produce, and Madonna’s “Bedtime Story,” which cost $5 million. “Scream” is still the most expensively video ever made.

During the 1990s, MTV launched channels around the world that included: MTV Latin America in 1993, MTV India in 1996, and MTV Mandarin in 1997. In 1996, MTV2, originally called “M2″ was launched as an alternative and older music video channel.

By the mid-2000s, MTV and many of its other channels had stopped showing a large number of music videos and began showing reality television shows.

Music Videos have played an important role in the success of many artists and the music industry.

Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., on September 27, 1982, Lil Wayne lived his early childhood years in the town of Hollygrove in New Orleans, USA. Even at an early age he was enrolled in the gifted programs in his elementary school. By the time he was attending secondary school he was an active member in the drama club and well on his way to making his mark on the world.

By the time Lil Wayne was 11 years old, he had met the owner of Cash Money Records and began a relentless campaign of phone messages containing freestyle rap on Bryan Williams’s answering machine. Eventually, Williams relented and mentored the boy, giving him the opportunity to record under his label.

At the young age of 12 the young rapper accidentally shot himself in the chest, luckily surviving but his attitude had changed and he later that year dropped out of school. He has since realized the importance of having his education and so has returned to complete his GED studies.

He first performed in 1997 as part of the group, Hot Boys which included such names as Turk, Juvenile and B.G., but Lil Wayne was the youngest of the group being only 15 at that time. Their debut album was released in 1997, titled “Get It How You Live!” and was followed up in 1999 with “Guerilla Warfare.” A series of unreleased rap music tracks were released in 1999 and 2000 on an album “Let ‘Em Burn.” By 2003, the band went their separate ways and Lil Wayne, who had released a solo album in 1998, continued to focus on his own career.

His albums from 1998 onwards began with his debut solo album titled “Tha Block Is Hot,” which came onto the charts at number three and hit platinum status very shortly thereafter. That same year Lil Wayne became the president of Cash Money Enterprises and during that same year he founded Young Money Entertainment. By 2007, he relinquished his roles in both companies. He went to work on his next album but towards the end of the recording four tracks were leaked, so as a result, he released an album in the interim by the name of “The Leak” and followed it up shortly thereafter with his original album, “Tha Carter III.” This album also did very well selling over a million copies in its first week of release in June of 2008.

The rapper also enrolled in university at the University of Huston in 2005 with plans of majoring in Political Science and had been taking several online courses to earn his degree. By the end of 2007, in spite of earning high grades in his courses, Lil Wayne discontinued his classes, but he does plan to eventually return to his studies.

Beyonce Music Videos

Beyonce is known for her upbeat music and unique style which definitely shines through in her music videos. She was initially a part of “Destiny’s Child” which was immensely popular and released videos like “Survivor”, “8 days of Christmas”, “Lose my Breath” and “Say My Name” among others. Soon after they broke up, Beyonce began her solo career which was widely appreciated. Her first video as a solo artist was “Crazy in Love” which was an instant hit.

Other famous videos include “Beautiful Liar” which featured another popular singer as well. This video proved that Beyonce could not only sing beautifully but also dance as well. She made belly dancing seem easy and inspired young children to take up the dance form as well.

Beyonce is known to incorporate fashion into her videos on a frequent basis. A minute into the video of “Single Ladies” proves this point. The black and white background definitely complements her flexible moves and the simple outfits enhance the elegance of the entire video. During a recent talk show, Beyonce confirmed that she was inspired by Bob Fosse and used his style to create the entire look of the video. She said she saw the choreographer’s video on a popular video website which helped her to create the moves and vibe of the music video.

A large number of Beyonce’s videos feature Jay-Z including “Crazy in Love”, “Deja vu” and “Bonnie and Clyde”. The duo received a nomination during the Grammy awards as well. The fact that her albums are a success definitely contributes towards the success of her music videos as well. Due to these reasons, Beyonce has come to be known as one of the most popular and marketable artists in the industry today. Apart from music, Beyonce has also tried her hand in movies and product endorsements. Her first film was “Carmen: A Hip Hopera” in 2001 and 5 years later, she bagged the lead role in “Dreamgirls” and went on to win two nominations during the Golden Globe awards. To top it all, she also own a fashion line “House of Dereon” which was launched in 2004.

As a Beyonce fan, the good news is that her videos are not only easily available but can also be watched for free. This is made possible with the help of websites like YouTube. One can also download her videos with the help of iTunes and Torrent. Recently, she announced a $250000 prize for a fan who could come up with a music video inspired by “Single Ladies” which would then be shown during her tour.

She has become a household name and VH1 features at least one Beyonce video on a daily basis. Her tours have always been sold out and have been immensely successful. The best part about her videos is that they are not based on a particular storyline like other music videos. They are simple and focus primarily on dancing and having fun.

Most Popular Music Videos of All Time

With music videos being as popular as ever, choosing the top videos of all time is an ongoing chore since new videos are being produced daily. Some music videos that you think should have made the top five won’t be there and not because they were not good or even creative, but simply because they did not hold that uniqueness needed to be one of the top five. So with this in mind, please go through our choices and see if you agree with who we picked.

Number 5: “Just” – Radiohead
Director: Jamie Thraves in 1995

The mystery of what the guy says at the very end of the video is right up there with the Cadbury secret! Even after 14 years, we are still unsure and the director and band remain hush- hush about what is said. None of the group wants to reveal what has happened to the video’s hero that makes him disconnect himself from the world around him and sit on the pavement. Perhaps they are not sure what is said themselves and after all this time are in the great debate about the final words.

Number 4: “Take On Me” – A-Ha
Director: Steve Barron in 1985

This band had limited success but this hit was one of the first examples of how MTV was a powerful enough force to take a video clip that started at nothing and took it to number one. The video actually depicts a story and is one of the first following that format. The concept used was unique and clever for its time.

Number 3: “Atmosphere” – Joy Divison
Director: Anton Corbjin in 1988

A bit on the bizarre side, children and/or midgets dressed in Druid costume conduct a funeral on a beach. At first it seems like a tribute done in poor taste to a late singer and drifter, but the melodies and macabre rhythms mesmerize those viewing this video. After watching further, the visuals make more sense. The black and white cinematography and still shots make it seem like Division is a fading memory. The video reaches those who have ever lost a loved one and that moment they go outside to see the world still bright and functioning, unaffected by their loss. The video is one you will not soon forget.

Number 2: “Hurt” – Johnny Cash
Director: Mark Romanek in 2003

No one can dispute Cash’s reputation and accomplishments as well as his contributions to American music and its history. In his video Cash portrays a number of “faces” to signify his various stages in life over the years; the husband, the father, the rebel, the man in black, even the lonely old man. It is probably the most appropriate way to celebrate his career and commemorate it all at the same time.

Number 1: “Rabbit in Your Headlights” – U.N.K.L.E. featuring Thom Yorke
Director: Jonathan Glazer in 1998

At first appearance, the video may seem to be a bit of a laugh to one who is not paying attention. A decrepit old vagrant is trying to make his way through traffic and getting creamed by vehicles, only to get back up and go at it again. Once you get past that and really sit down to watch it, the video takes on a different tone and gives a message. This video is cryptic, emotionally powerful, and difficult for a person to watch without being emotionally moved.

How to Post Music Videos to MySpace

Although there are many great things about MySpace, one of the best features is that you are able to share your thoughts and interests with everyone in the internet world. One of the most popular things people like to share is their personal music tastes. Uploading music to MySpace is not a difficult task. The key is to know where to look for the codes needed to do the upload.

The easiest way to upload the videos you like is to use the ones on the MySpace site because they will upload easily and they are safe. The website has a huge selection to choose from, however, if you still can’t find your favorite artist or song then locate the access code that will allow you to download the song from the alternate site.

Music videos on the Internet are as plentiful as grains of sand on the beach and some of these sites will allow you to directly download to your MySpace profile. Always make sure the site allows you to do this for free because some sites require a fee to download. Be careful about what you are signing up for. Some sites make it as easy as a copy and paste or selecting the song and clicking on the “add to MySpace” button.

You can also add videos by editing your MySpace page. To do this click the “home” button at the top of your page and locate the main editing box. It has your picture on it. Select the box and it will drop down a list of options- select “Add/Change Videos”.

Now you will be able to manage your videos by selecting one of the four choices given. Your choices will be “featured”, “videos”, “my videos”, and “upload”. To upload from the selection offered by MySpace click on “videos” and browse through the huge selection they offer. They allow you to play them to see if it is one you would like and once you find one you just click on “add to my profile” and it is automatically done for you. A follow-up message will inform you that your upload was a success and is now on your profile.

If you have a video on your computer that you would like to put on your profile, first make sure you have permission to do so. Once you have permission to post it on your profile, simply hit the “upload” button. You will be asked to give a description of the video you are uploading, so type in the name of the song and who is singing it. This will help others who may be looking for the same artist /song. Once the info has been filled in. hit the “continue” button. On the next page shown, hit the “browse” button so that you can search your files to find the video you want to add to your profile. Once you locate it hit the “upload” button to transfer a copy to your profile page. Be sure the video is not copyright protected, whereas MySpace has strict copyright laws they adhere to and as a result your video maybe deleted from your profile. The same applies to anything that may not be considered appropriate for public forum, such as explicit language or anything of a pornographic nature.

Adding music videos to your MySpace profile is fun and adds so much to your profile. It helps you express to others not only your music tastes but part of who you are and what is happening in your life. The process is not difficult or time consuming, other than trying to pick out your favorite videos to add from the wide selection of videos there is to choose from.

Discography of Eminem

Marshall Mathers was born in St. Joseph, a small town just outside Kansas City, MO. Marshall spent most of his early life between St. Joseph and Detroit, living in near poverty conditions. He was deeply attracted to rap music by the time he reached his teen years, and at the age of 14 was performing raps in his friend’s basement. The two pals billed themselves as Manix and M&M which, was soon changed to Eminem (the name originally was formed from his initials). Because of the racial boundaries that were placed in front of him as a white rapper he took to the underground rapping as a battle rapper in clubs. He eventually became a popular performer and discovered that he was the rapper to beat.

The topics of his raps are based on his skills to express himself about his unhappy childhood and the drastic, and often dramatic, circumstances that arose throughout his life. His recordings over the past several years are an impressive accumulation of deep and meaningful lyrics.

- 1995 – Joined New Jacks, then left, and joined Soul Intent releasing his first single

In March he was back in the top 40 with a collaboration rap song done with Dr.Dre, called “Forget about Dre’. Singles ‘Without Me’ and -Cleanin’ Out My Closet’ from the album, proved very popular. In June, ‘Without Me’ topped the Billboard Top 40 for two weeks. ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet’ hit the top ten in September. October saw the release of the soundtrack to movie ’8 Mile’ which featured several songs by the rapper as well as other artists, like Jay-Z and Macy Gray. From this soundtrack, Eminem hit #1 for three weeks with song -Lose Yourself’.

- 2004 – His ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ had now hit 9x platinum and by November, a new album, ‘Encore’ was released. Singles, ‘Mosh’ and ‘Mockingbird’, hit the top 40 charts.

- 2005 – This year saw the rapper taking time off to produce music with other artists but not before he released a hit album called ‘Curtain Call’. The album contained 3 new tracks in addition to his chart toppers.

History of Beyonce’s Career

beyonceBeyonce Giselle Knowles was born September 4th, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Matthew and Tina Knowles as the first born of two girls. Before she reached the age of seven she was singing and showing signs of great talent. When she was seven, she was already attending dance school and was a soloist in the church choir.

By the time she reached her teen years, any spare time she could find was spent with her childhood pals, LaTayia Roberson, Kelly Rowland and LeToya Luckett, performing at local functions. The girls, then known as “Girl’s Tyme” tried their luck at Star Search but did not make the cut. Beyonce’s Dad gave up his good paying job in order to devote his time promoting the band. To this day Matthew Knowles manages his daughter’s career.

After trying a few different names, the girls settled on Destiny’s Child. The musical debut for the group was the song “Killing Time”, which appeared on the soundtrack for the “Men in Black” movie, released in 1997. A year later, they had number one single with the song, “No,No,No, Part 2.” The quartet became a trio later on that same year with the departure of LeToya and LaTayia, who decided to pursue individual careers. Destiny’s Child continued onwards and became one of the top R&B/Pop groups in 2000 accumulating four Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and numerous top ten hits, as well as two albums that went to number one.

The group’s second album continued with great success with tracks like “Say My Name,” “Jumpin’ Jumpin,’” and the very successful “Bug A Boo.” In the 2001, two Grammy awards were given to “Say My Name”. They followed up with a third album, “Survivor,” which produced such hits as the title track as well as “Bootylicious”. The group decided to disband by 2005 but had at that time proven themselves as one of the top selling female groups in music history.

Beyonce had proven her worth and skills as a songwriter. She won the 2001 Songwriter of the Year, awarded by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Pop Music Awards. This made her the first African-American woman to win the award and only the second woman to win. She also spent a bit of time working on solo projects which at first was not as successful as the projects with the trio, but she was not easily discouraged.

When she finally released her solo debut album, “Dangerously in Love”, it went right to the top selling over 300,000 copies in just the first week and went platinum 3 weeks later, in June of 2003. The single from the album,”Crazy in Love” topped the charts and stayed there for over 8 weeks. Later that same year her album and the single topped the charts at the same time which put her on the same level as such musical wonders as The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Rod Stewart. She was and still is the only female artist to have accomplished this feat. This helped make Beyonce one of the biggest artists in both sales and popularity for 2003.

In 2004 she won five Grammy Awards. On the Destiny’s Child album released in 2005, Beyonce released a song called “Check on It,” which was used on the soundtrack of “The Pink Panther Movie,” released in 2006.

In correspondence with her 25th birthday, she released a second album called “B’day,” which sold more than her first solo album, with 541,000 copies sold in the first week after release. The lead single from the album, “Deja Vu,” became a number one hit on the US R&B charts.

Not only has Beyonce had success in music, but also on the movie screen. She may be best known for the character Foxy Cleopatra in the 2002 summer movie, “Austin Powers in Goldmember” along side Michael Caine and Mike Myers. In 2003 she appeared beside Cuba Gooding Jr. in the movie “The Fighting Temptations”. In 2006, she got chance to pay homage to Diana Ross in a movie based on a Broadway musical depicting the lives of the Supremes. Beyonce showed off her incredible acting skills, playing the part of Ms. Ross in the Movie titled, “Dreamgirls”, which opened with first weekend sales of $8 million and has grossed well over $100 million to date.

Beyonce’s talent has shown no end in sight and her fans are looking forward to see what is yet to come.

Lil Wayne: Career History

TheCarterIIIOn September 27, 1982, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He spent his early years growing up in the tough Hollygrove district. He started rapping at a very young age at local block parties, where he was heard by a group signed by Cash Money Records.

Cash Money’s CEO, Brian “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams was giving Wayne some consideration. After Wayne learned the phone number and location of their office, he practically haunted them day and night. He would even leave daily rap messages on their answering machine. They were so impressed with the 12 year olds dedication they decided to give in and sign him, pairing him up with another young rapper, Big Goochie, who they had also just signed.

The duo released an album, “True Story” under the “The B.G.’s” and right from day one his style was a true gangsta rap. He was unlike most young rappers who usually start off with “bubble gum rap,” and do not make the change over until they are well out of their teen years.

Wayne’s mother became worried about her son’s actions and the company he kept when he began wearing gang affiliation clothing. Knowing the street reputation the Williams brothers had, she decided it was best to remove Lil Wayne from the Cash Money Company. In retaliation, he ran away from home for a week and during that time managed to convince his Mom that the records company owners were not to blame for any of his actions or choices.

In 1995, he along with B.G., and two other young rappers, Young Turk and Juvenile, formed the group Hot Boys. The first album, “Get it How you Live” in 1997 was followed up with “Guerilla Warfare” in 1999, shortly before his first solo effort. Wayne’s first solo album was a great success; “Tha Block is Hot” (title track) became a top ten hit.

The second album, “Lights Out” and the third,”500 Degreez”, did not fair as well and lead him to take a brief break from solo efforts to collaborate with others. Also, by this time he was the last of the Hot Boys; the others having gone their own way and retreating from what seemed to be a failing record company.

During the early 2000′s, Lil Wayne was a prolific contributor to others rap lyrics and made numerous guest appearances on other rapper’s recordings. At this time, he also made several mix tapes that received critical acclaim within the music industry. He even offered a few mixes online for free. In 2004 he released a new album, “Tha Carter” which introduced the public to a more defined and crisper performance from the young rapper. The single, “Go D.J.”, hit the top 20, and the album, the top five. In December 2005, he released “Tha Carter II”, which arrived on the charts at number two and produced a hit single, “Fireman.”

Tha Carter III” was released in June 2008 and sold one million copies within the first week, and another million within the month. Two big hit singles from this album were “Lollipop” and “A Milli.”

Wayne’s style has become refined and improves as time progresses and with his talent for writing lyrics, record sales for him come with great ease. If his work is followed, and especially from such a young age, it may be easy to agree with his self proclaimed statement, that he is “the best rapper alive.”

The Story Behind Linkin Park

Linkin Park is a popular band, and hundreds, if not thousands, download music videos from the group every day. If you are one who loves to watch music videos of this group, take some time to learn a little more in-depth information about the group and its members.

History of Linkin Park

The band started with Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Rob Bourdon, three high school friends from California who enjoyed playing together. After graduation, they decided to see how far they could take their group, and then recruited three new members: Joe Han, Dave Ferrell, and Mark Wakefield. The new group gave themselves the name “Zero” and began to record and produce their own songs. The original songs were produced in Mike’s bedroom studio, but they were struggling to land a record deal.

As with many similar bands, the lack of success led to tension. This caused two of the members to leave. First to leave was Wakefield, who was Xero’s vocalist, followed by Farrell, who went on to tour with other groups.

The group had to recruit a new vocalist, and they turned to Chester Bennington. His unique singing style landed him a spot, and the new group changed its name to Hybrid Theory. As the band came back to life, it changed its name again to Linkin Park.

Still, the band continued to struggle. They turned to Jeff Blue, vice president of Warner Bros. Records, who had referred Chester Bennington to them in the past. With his help, they signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records in 1999, and their first successful album Hybrid Theory, was released in 2000.

The first album contained much of the work from the group over the last ten years. Music fans enjoyed it, and it sold over 4.8 million records its first year. Singles from the album were popping up all over the place, including several hit movies. The album was nominated for three Grammies, winning the Grammy for the best hard rock performance, which solidified the band’s popularity.

Over time, bassist Dave Farrell rejoined the group, and they published the remix album Reanimation, which earned second spot on the Billboard 200. This opened the band to touring, and in 2002 the band released its third album, Meteora, which featured a variety of styles.
