X Factor USA 2011 Dance Song Night

The remaining 5 have 2 songs to sing on this show and in the first round they all had to sing dance songs and in the second round songs of their choice. This is my opinion of their efforts.

Melanie Amaro

Sang ‘Someone Like You’ brilliantly but you wouldn’t have known it was supposed to be a dance track from this performance.  Still I think she has the best voice.

Marcus Canty

I loved this performance of ‘Aint Nobody’ it made me want to get up and dance.

Rachael Crow

A good performance of ‘Nothing on You’ from this cute 13 year old. Good for her age but not really good enough for a prospective finalist.

Josh Krajcik

I love his rock voice and he didn’t disappoint with his dance track ‘We Found Love’ , absolutely brilliant. L A Reed and Simon Cowell didn’t agree with me but what the heck.

Chris Rene

A good performance of ‘Live Your Life’ but I found it a bit boring

Second round

After practising their second round songs all week the contestants were told with 24 hours to go to ditch the song they had rehearsed and choose a different one.

Melanie Amaro

Sang her second song ‘When You Believe’ beautifully. Melanie looked great she more than any of the other competitors is starting to look more of a superstar.

Marcus Canty

Sang ‘A Song For You’, he was pretty good but I was bored during that performance. I prefer him singing upbeat songs.

Rachael Crow

Sang ‘Music and Me’. I’m sorry if anybody reading this is a fan of hers but it was too boring, the song was too old for her and she was dressed too old. Personally I think that kids her age don’t belong on the X Factor, they should be allowed to grow up and not rush into careers at her age.

Josh Krajcik

His performance of ‘Something’ gave me goose bumps. A perfect song choice and I loved it.

Chris Rene

‘Where Do We Go From Here’ sang his own original song. Well done Chris, this was the first time that I thought you might be in with a chance of winning.

My top 3 based on performances from this particular show is:

1. Josh Krajcik
2. Chris Rene
3. Melanie Amaro

Those are also the 3 that I believe have the most talent and have  more of a chance of being future big stars.

The Results Show

The 3 chosen to go through were Josh, Chris and Melanie and Rachel and Marcus had to sing against each other for survival.

Both Marcus and Rachel put everything into their performances, I couldn’t choose which was the best. Rachel looked as if she was going to burst into tears throughout making me feel again that she is too young for stardom yet.

The judges went into deadlock giving each act 2 votes so the one who got the least votes went home. That was Rachel and there were some emotional scenes where she fell to her knees on the stage crying and it was obviously upsetting to all of the judges because they had grown to love this child. Those upsetting scenes plus some not very nice scenes when youngster Astro was in the sing off tell me that youngsters should not be appearing on an high pressure show like this.

Rachel, please enjoy the rest of your childhood. You have the rest of your life to become a star, you’ve done really well and I’m sure it’s not over for you.

The X Factor UK 2011 Semi Final And Final

It’s almost over for another year and all we’ve got left to watch are the semi finals between the top 3 contestants Marcus Collins, Amelia Lily and girl band Little Mix and then the top 2 semi finalists go into the final. Each act will do a duet with their mentor and a second song in the semi final.

First Song

Marcus Collins sang Hey Ya by Outcast. It was a really good performance but some of the high notes were a bit forced.

Little Mix sang You’ve Got The Love by Candi Staton. It was a big performance of one of my favourite oldies, a bit too much going on in the background for me but they sounded good.

Amelia Lily sang Ain’t No Other Man by Christina Aguilera. It was a really good performance but out of the three I think that Marcus won the first round.

Duets With Mentors

Marcus Collins and Gary Barlow – She’s Always A Woman by Billy Joel

A lovely performance and I honestly think that Marcus outsang his mentor Gary.

Little Mix and Tulisa – Mash up of Empire State Of Mind and If I Ain’t Got You, both by Alicia Keys

Another good performance but in my opinion not enough to win.

Amelia Lily and Kelly Rowland – River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner

A superb performance with just the voices on show and no big production. Out of the 3 I think that this duet won the second round, but Kelly Rowland stole the show and she isn’t in the competition.

Personally I think that after those performances Amelia and Marcus should go through to the final, but I suspect that Little Mix will get through on cuteness and popularity.

Fast Forward

The public voted Marcus Collins and Little Mix through to the final. A shame for Amelia Lily but she did well to get through to the semi finals and at only 17 she could have a heck of a future ahead of her.

X Factor 2011 Final

Marcus kicked off with the classic Jackie Wilson song ‘Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher And Higher’ and showed us what he does best. A cracking performance for Marcus, just wish they hadn’t put him in a pink jacket.

Little Mix answered that with an excellent performance of Don’t Let Go by En Vogue

Next they performed Christmas songs and George Michael’s Last Christmas was the choice of Marcus. I’ve always found that song pretty boring and that didn’t change, but that’s my personal taste.

Lttle Mix sang the Christmas Carol Silent Night, nice but boring too.

This whole series hasn’t been all that good but I never thought I’d be bored in the final. Kelly Rowland didn’t help with her silly cutesie comments.

Next they both sang the single which will be realeased by the winner.

The performance from Marcus was really strong. I found myself wanting him to win because he has such a lovely personality as well as a voice.

I think that the version from Little Mix was slightly better and that they will win the X Factor 2011.

And the winner is Little Mix

X Factor 2011 Pre Final Review

UK X Factor

The UK X Factor has been disappointing for me this year up to previous years, Maybe the show’s format is getting jaded, maybe the acts aren’t as good, or it could be the new panel despite them keeping things lively with their arguments. Saying that I’ve found the US version more interesting despite the same format.

With just the final left to go I’m going to take a bit of a look back at some X Factor moments, but first I’m going to take a look at the last 3 finalists who will be performing in the Wembley final.

Marcus Collins

The only male left in Garly Barlow’s team of finalists is Liverpudlian hairdresser Marcus Collins. He has managed to hold his own despite a predominance of female performers. Marcus is at his best singing old classics like Jackie Wilson’s Reet Petite and Signed, Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder. In the final he will be dueting with his mentor Gary Barlow singing Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman. A good choice for Gary but not so good for Marcus.

Little Mix

The first ever female group to get through to the final show were forced to change their name from Rhythmix part way through the series. They are good but I don’t think them great, but they are and will be very popular because they are a cute bunch. In the final they will be dueting with their mentor Tulisa and the song choice is a Mash up of Empire State Of Mind and If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys.

Amelia Lily

Amelia was dropped by her mentor Kelly Rowland after the first live show. This was when each of the 4 mentors had to choose one of their acts to leave and that particular night Amelia’s performance wasn’t as strong as the other 3 girls. Fortunately for Amelia and ourselves one of Gary’s boys Frankie Cocozza got thrown off the show and the public voted Amelia back on in his place. In the final Amelia will be singing Tina Turner’s River Deep Mountain High with her mentor Kelly and that is the performance that I’m most looking forward to, I’m sure that it will be a belter.

Roundup

I’ve already mentioned Frankie Cocozza being thrown out but what I can’t understand is why Gary Barlow  thought that Frankie was talented enough to put through to the live shows. Disappointing was when Craig Colton was voted off. In my opinion he is the most talented of the boys and it was good to see his improvement. For me he is the most likely of the boys to sell albums.

My favourite of Tulisa’s groups the Risk were voted off quite early. It just goes to show that my opinion isn’t always right :)

The overs didn’t impress me massively. Sami Brookes was the best singer and Kitty Brucknell put on the best show but I think the time was right when they were voted off.

Kelly’s girls were all good in different ways. Shy Janet Devlin has a wonderfully different voice, but not very flexible. Comeback girl Amelia Lily has a cracking voice and shows a lot of promise. Misha B has one of those great, instantly recognisable voices and would probably have been a stronger contender for winner if she had connected more with the audience. Tulisa set the cat amongst the pigeons on one of the live shows when she said that some of the other contestants had complained about Misha B being a bully. There were denials but true or not it wouldn’t have helped the singer.

My Winner Prediction
First of all I’ll place the finalist in order of who I think are the best acts and then I’ll predict what the viewers will choose.
My favourites
1. Amelia Lily
2. Marcus Collins
3. Little Mix
My Final Predictions
1. Little Mix
2. Amelia Lily
3. Marcus Collins
Although I think that Amelia has the most talent I think that little Mix will win because of their cuteness and appeal.
US X Factor
The first series of the US version of X Factor has been more interesting than the UK version, certainly a wider variety of artists. The most unbelievable was 60 year old Leroy Bell who looks an awful lot younger. What a wonderful voice and dishy for his age. A shame that he wasn’t discovered 40 years ago I’m sure he would have been a big star.

12 year old rapper Astro got through to the live shows but I don’t know why. It’s a singing not a rapping contest. OK some contestants sing and rap, like Chris Rene but Astro didn’t sing at all. I was glad when he got knocked out. I know that he is only young and has masses of talent but he is an arrogant little sh*t and I doubt growing up famous will do him any favours.

14 year old Drew was one of my favourites, but I don’t think that the songs she sang were the best choices for her. I really hope that she continues singing, with more maturity she could become a big star. Too cutesy for me was 14 year old Rachel Crow, great singer, but again she will be bestter with maturity.

My top 3 US X Factor voices are:

1. Melanie Amaro

2. Josh Krajcik

3. Chris Rene

By coincidence Melanie Amaro is a comeback act like UK competitor Amelia Lily. Simon Cowell who is mentoring the girls didn’t include her in his top 4 but on the first of the live shows he admitted making a mistake and brought her back.

Maybe these comeback girls are trying harder because of their setbacks, whatever, they are still my favourites.

X Factor 2010 Final Reviewed

Here we are the final weekend of X Factor 2010. Four very different acts got through to the finals and in the first show sing on their own and then duet with a big star, this is what I thought of their performances.

On Their Own.

Matt Cardle

Matt started the show, guitar in hand with a lovely performance of ‘Here With Me’.

Rebecca Ferguson

Sang ‘Like A Star’. She looked as stunning as her performance. Out of all of the acts I think that she has been the most consistent.

One Direction

Performed Elton’s ‘Your Song’, they were really good but I would rather this group of teenagers have sang something more up to date.

Cher Lloyd

Performed a mash up of ’369 – Cupid’ and ‘Get Your Freak On’. In my opinion that was the best perfomance out of  the four acts though I doubt she would win because of the rapping.

With A Star

Matt and Rihanna

Sang ‘Unfaithful’. Matt looked so much in awe of the hot Rihanna it’s a wonder he managed to sing a note. Loved the duet.

Rebecca and Christina Aguilera

Gave a stunning performance of ’Beautiful’. With more confidence I believe that Rebecca will be up there amongst the super stars.

One Direction and Robbie Williams

I always enjoy the duets with Robbie Williams and this was no exception, loved it.

Cher and Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas

Performed a mash up of ‘Where is the love’ and ‘I Gotta Feeling’. The Black Eyed Peas are one of my favourite bands and this duet didn’t dissapoint me.

Who Got Knocked Out

Cher was eliminated but she has done really well to get so far

My Thoughts

Overall I felt that Cher gave the best performances but I have never thought that she has had a chance of winning unless she leaves the rapping out. That’s not because I don’t like it, it’s because X Factor voters come from a broad cross section of the public and it is a singing competiton, she has a wonderful singing voice but right now I think that from those performances I think that Rebecca is the most likely to win.

Sunday Night Final

Rebecca stole the show in the first round of songs with ‘Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This’. One Direction and Matt were great but didn’t touch Rebecca’s performance. Although I’ve always like Matt’s performances better, I really couldn’t choose between Matt and One Direction based on these performances, so I really couldn’t predict who I thought would be voted off next, and that was One Direction.

Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson were the last two in and I guess that it wasn’t really a great surprise. They have clearly been the favourites since the live shows began and both have star quality. Judging on the amount of Internet searches it should be Matt, but for pure class and star quality it should be Rebecca. Either way they are both stars and should do well in the future.

In the sing off both acts gave winning performances and I found myself wishing that this year there could be a draw. Matt and Rebecca are both wonderful singers and really nice people, probably the best final ever.

The X Factor 2010 winner is Matt Cardle

It’s been a less than Roman trail up to this point for long-haul, stubbly Scot trio Biffy Clyro. From the proto-grunge of their debut, through gathering melodic grandeur, progressive cross-genre experimentalism, brief indie accessibility and some truly heavy songwriting, to say they’ve surpassed expectations along the way is an understatement as large as the chasm between their original potential and subsequent accomplishment. X Factor 2010 Semi Final Club Classics Night

It’s semi finals week and I’ve been looking forward to a great show. The final 5 all have to sing a club classic and a get me to the final song. This is what I thought of the acts:

Rebecca Ferguson

Rebecca started off the night’s performances with one of my all time favourites Show Me Love. She sang it brilliantly but still not much movement from her even though it’s an upbeat song.

Rebecca’s second song choice was Amazing Grace. I would have liked to see her singing something more up to date but this was a beautiful version of a beautiful song.

Mary Byrne

Mary’s performance of the Gloria Gaynor classic ‘Never Can Say Goodbye’ was great, she even moved about a bit more than Rebecca.

‘The Way You Were’ was Mary’s second choice. I didn’t like that performance as much as her first one. The song is dated and just didn’t seem right in the X Factor semis.

Matt Cardell

Matt’s performance of ‘You’ve Got The Love’ was good considering that he has been ill all week and thought that he wouldn’t be able to sing.

Matt’s second song was ‘She’s Always A Woman’, a bit ropey but still a lovely version. Surely Matt will make the final.

Cher

Cher’s performance of ‘Nothin’ On You’ was almost my favourite so far until the rapping started. I know that rapping is where she is at but she has an incredible voice when she purely sings and I would have loved to hear more singing.

I didn’t like Cher’s performance of ‘Love The Way You Lie’. I don’t think that it was a very good choice for her.

One Direction

Took on Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl In The World’ and gave the first performance that I’ve ever really enjoyed. It was a great song choice, perfect for them.

The last song of the night was One Direction singing ‘Chasing Cars’. I liked this performance too, I think that they have done much better this week than any other week.

My Bottom Two

Cher and Mary

Who Do I think Will Win

Rebecca

Results Show

For a change I got it right, Cher and Mary were in the bottom two and in the sing off.

Mary sang first and gave a stunning performance of ‘It’s A Man’s World’. The absolute right choice for me, I love this song and it shows Mary’s voice off perfectly.

Cher fought back but in my opinion not hard enough. However I expected her to get through because the song is more contemporary.

The final 4 acts:

  • Rebecca Ferguson
  • Matt Cardell
  • One Direction
  • Cher

X Factor 2010 – Rock Week

Rock week is usually my favourite week so I’m looking forward to tonights show. The gossip and controvosy has been as high as ever this week, guaranteeing more views I should think. The most annoying to me was to hear that Wagner is on the sick for a frozen shoulder, frozen throat more like. All that dancing and doesn’t he do karate?

Wagner

Wagner started the show with the aptly named Creep from  Radiohead. I hate to say this but that was his best performance so far. On his own without masses of dancers, no cavorting around the stage like an overstuffed turkey, the singing improved too.

Back to mediocrity with Addicted To Love  from Robert Palmer. The absolute direst performance of this track that I have ever heard.

One Direction

Sang Summer Of 69 by Bryan Adams. I enjoyed their performance but I still don’t get them. I’ve heard dozens of pub groups sing that and found their performances more in tune and more stirring. Sorry boys I’ve got to be honest.

You Are So Beautiful from Joe Cocker was One Direction’s second choice. It was good but as Louis said it isn’t a rock song.

Mary Byrne

All I Want Is You  from U2 was Mary’s first choice. I love U2, when I hear them singing this track I get shivers down my spine. I thought that Mary’s version was boring until just before the end when she really began to rock, but maybe it’s unfair to make comparisons with one of my favourite bands.

Mary’s second song choice was Brass In Pocket  from The Pretenders. A really gutsy performance and didn’t she look good. A bit karaoke but I enjoyed it.

Cher Lloyd

Sang Girlfriend  from Avril Lavigne. I enjoyed her high energy performance, probably the most entertaining so far.

Cher ended the show with Walk This Way by Run DMC and Aerosmith. It was lively and full of fun but I didn’t think it a particularly good version.

Rebecca Ferguson

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For  from  U2 was Rebecca’s first choice. One of my all time favourites and I thoroughly enjoyed this haunting version.

I Can’t Get No Satisfaction  from the Rolling Stones was Rebecca’s second choice. Wow she rocked. Her best performance so far I think and her version was much better than the Stones version.

Matt Cardell

Sang I Love Rock’n Roll from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Matt looked better with his clothes on this week. His performance was great but he isn’t a rock singer.

Nights In White Satin by the Moody Blues was Matt’s second choice. A beautiful version of a beautiful song.

Katie Waisel

Not the greatest performance of Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon that I’ve seen, though it showed that Katie can sing rock.

Katie’s second song was Everybody Hurts from REM and what a great choice. She put a lot of feeling into her performance and made it believable.

Best performance of the night: Matt Cardell – Nights in White Satin

Best Double Performance: Rebecca Ferguson

Worst performance of the week: Wagner – Addicted to Love

Who Will Be Booted – I think that Cher and Wagner will be in the bottom 2 this week and that hopefully Wagner will be booted. As it’s a double vote off I think that those two are the most likely to go based on tonights performances. If it’s based on popularity then it could be entirely different. I wouldn’t be surprised if Katie isn’t in the bottom 2 again.

These are my opinions, if you agree or disagree please leave a comment.

Results Show

Wow Justin Bieber was amazing, a great example for One Direction.

Katie got the fewest votes and had to leave without another sing off. Mary and Wagner ended up in the sing off to choose the second to leave this week. I was almost right but what the heck.

The look on the faces of Simon and Louis when Cher got through was a mixture of surprise, shock and realisation that their remaining acts were at risk.

The Sing Off

Wagner was up first singing another aptly names song ‘Unforgettable’. His performance was better than most of the ones we’ve seen over the weeks, almost as good as a pub singer.

Mary gave a pretty good performance of ‘This Is My Life’. Good enough to stay in, but not good enough to win the competition. Cruelly they went to Louis first to choose between his 2 acts, as all the others he chose Wagner to go and thank goodness for that.

Lets hope what next week will bring pure talent and entertainment and less scandal and gossip.

X Factor 2010 Review – Beatles Week

Wow what a week for gossip and sensationalism. Wagner and Matt had a big bust up. Mary has moved out of the shared house, so has Katie, Cher isn’t speaking to anybody and somebody left the shower on and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. That was what the newspapers were saying anyway and you can’t buy publicity like that.

Anyway on to this week the Beatles song week. Instead of writing my review the day after I’m going to have a change and write it as the show happens. First of all:

Matt Cardell – Come Together

Showed some versatility at last except for his white vest, sort of thing my dad wore with his pyjama bottoms back in the 60s and oh dear Simon thought that he looked like he’d been dragged off the loo – true. As far as the performance went it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t a performance of a winner.

Cher Lloyd – Imagine

I love this song and it’s never failed to give me goose bumps until tonight. Cher sang it well, probably one of her best performances but this little girl with a big voice just didn’t do this massive hit justice, but can a 17 year old?

One Direction – All You Need Is Love

So far I haven’t been able to see why there is so much excitement about this very young boy band and I still can’t. A bland but competent performance, but this song is one of the original pop anthems, a crowd stirrer. That didn’t happen until after they finished and the girls in the audience were screaming.

Rebecca Ferguson – Yesterday

I would have loved to have said “Another cracking performance” from Rebecca. After a very shaky start she picked herself up and it was a good performance but not great. As always she looked great, so classy but I don’t think it was the right song choice for her.

Mary Byrne  – Something

Out of everybody I absoulutely expected Mary to do well with this beautiful song, an excellent choice. For the first time for me Mary looked and acted the part, probably because her confidence was there and yes she did do well, the best so far this evening.

Paije Richardson – Let It Be

When I saw this song choice for Paige I though ‘crap, Danni has done it again’. I was wrong. There was some slight timing issues but as the song went on and as he built confidence, his soulful voice and great performance put him right back on the map. He was dressed pretty natty as well.

Wagner Carrilho – Mash up of Get Back, Hippy Hippy Shake and Hey Jude

Will somebody please put him out of his misery. I’ve seen and heard better karaoke performances. He was out of tune but when was he ever in tune. I don’t get him at all, he is not entertaining. Cheryl had a go at him for being catty about her in the press and good for her. Please stop voting for him, far more talented singers are being voted out and surely they have more of a chance of success.

Katie Waissel – Help

I wasn’t sure what I thought of this song choice, but I’m not sure about her either. Her new haircut suited her and made her look like a different person. Her performance was brilliant, her version of Help was the best cover I’ve ever heard and perhaps better than the original and that’s really saying something.

My favourite of the night

Katie Waissel – Help

Looks the part

Rebecca Ferguson

Which would I buy

A tie between Katie’s Help and Paije’s Let It Be

Should be voted out - Wagner Carrilho, his performance was the worst and has been every week.

Despite some of my favourites not being as good as normal this week I still enjoyed the show. Perhaps my expectations were a little too high when realistically there are few who can sing Beatles songs anywhere near as well as the originals, but there were some nice surprises too.

The Sing Off And Results

This show is getting ridiculous, Cher and Paije in the last 2 when the slimy untalented Wagner gets through to the next show. The X Factor is becoming a travesty, gossip, falling out, and a joke being supported over talent.

Paije Richardson sang ‘Stop’ and gave an excellent performance to a song that well suited his soulful voice.

Cher Lloyd gave a powerful performance of ’Stay’ again and it became a foregone conclusion afer the first few seconds.

I felt so sorry for those 2 talented youngsters while they were waiting for the verdict, but somebody had to go and it was my favourite Paije, who was the most gracious to be voted out yet. I’m absolutely sure that Paije has got a great future ahead of him, now I’ve got a feeling that the rest of this series of the X Factor is going to be boring without him.

Note. I was absolutely disgusted to see the headlines in a Sunday tabloid I do not give a monkeys what any of the contestants relatives do for a living, it’s none of my business, nor is it anbody elses business. It’s because of that sick sort of journalism that I stopped buying newspapers years ago.

These are my personal views. What did you think of the show? Please let us know in the comments.

Paije Richardson singing Let It Be

X Factor 2010 Elton John Week

Blimey after last weeks contentious vote off of Treyc Cohen the judges were at it again bickering over the acts. Sometimes I wonder if the arguing and ‘sensational’ stories are diliberate to create more interest in the show.

I didn’t have time to write about last week but for the record my personal opinion is that Cheryl Cole shouldn’t have been put on the spot like that and forced to choose between her 2 acts at an early stage in the voting. If Cheryl had been asked last she could have sent it to deadlock and let the public vote decide.

I felt that Katie Wassail should have gone, her vocals are nowhere near as good as Treyc’s, her performance was better,  and Katie sitting down on the floor like a spoilt brat shouting out ‘sod it’ was pathetic. It’s funny how one week the judges will say that their decision is based on the performances in the sing off, then another it’s based on how much further the judges think the acts can go, then another it can be decided upon how interesting they are, then another how flexible, get my drift?

Anyway I’ll move on to week 6, the Elton John song week.

Paije Richardson

Started off the show and the bickering with a good rendition of ‘Crocodile Rock’. Louis Walsh said that it was the wrong song choice and Danni Minogue tried to stop him from speaking by calling him snappy and snappiung her fingers in his face – I would have slapped them away that’s for sure. Although I love Paije’s voice and thought his performance good I also agree with Louis and felt that it wasn’t a good song choice.

There is a promise in Paije that is being unfulfilled. I remember him singing ‘It’s A Mans World’ in his audition and loving his powerful, soulful voice. So far Danni has not picked a song to show off his voice to the best and I’m beginning to fear that she never will. Simon Cowell said that Paije would never win the X Factor. How rude and how cruel saying that about a sensative 19 year old. Paije came back with a retort about flexibility and he was right, he has more flexibility than some of the others.

Aiden Grimshaw

Was voted off after being in the sing off with Katy Waissel. It was her umpteenth sing off but still she scraped through. I liked Aiden’s performance of ‘Rocket Man’ but I had a feeling that he would go because he was not standing out in any way.

Mary Byrne

Got her mojo back thanks to her daughter who she was missing flying over from Ireland with Westlife and being in the audience. Mary sang ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ really well, and it’s great that somebody older is doing so well in the competition, but I don’t think that she will be in there much longer.

One Direction

Sang ‘Something About The Way You Look Tonight’ pretty well, but if you are a One Direction fan I’m sorry. Sorry but I don’t believe the hype Simon is generating about them. I still can’t muster up much interest in them, but I’m sure young teenage girls will be able to.

Cher Lloyd

A mash up of ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’ and Eminem’s Mockingbird was young Cher’s choice. One of the best performances, Cher has one heck of a voice and it was a good choice of song to show that off. A little bit of rap in the middle didn’t spoil it but I’m wondering if Cher indulging herself with the rap additions might end up losing her the contest.

Katie Waissel

Katie sang a reasonable performance of ‘Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting’  but it wasn’t anything special. It’s been said that her performances in the sing offs are stronger than those on the main show and I agree with that. Simon threatened to have Louis thrown out of the building after Louis upset Cheryl by critisizing her song choice.

Matt Cardell

Brilliant yet again with his version of ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. A bit shaky to start with but excellent after that.

Rebecca Ferguson

Gave a magical performance of ‘Candle In The Wind’. I don’t think that I’ve seen Rebecca falter once, she is so darn good.

Wagner Carrilho

Last but not least…. er rephrase that. A mash up of ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘I’m Still Standing’ that yet again left me feeling embarrassed for him. I’m sorry but I don’t find him entertaining at all and wonder if he is still there to add some contention to the show. Wagner even had to ask Louis to pronounce his name properly for the umpteenth time, shows just how seriously his mentor takes him.

Who do I think will win?

This is what I said 2 weeks ago: At this stage it looks like either Rebecca, Matt or Cher, but secretly I want Paije to win because apart from making me smile with his freshness I think that he could be a bigger star than any of the rest given time and the right training.

I’m mainly sticking to that but this is my order of preference.

  1. Rebecca
  2. Matt
  3. Cher

My X Factor Wish

That Wagner would run off with Ann Widdicombe who is also making and ass of herself on Strictly Come Dancing.

Best X Factor Moment

Take That together again – sheer magic!

and here is Aiden Grimshaw singing Rocket Man

X Factor 2010 The Halloween Show

This week was the 4th of the live shows and supposedly an Halloween special. I say supposedly because most of the song choices had little or nothing to do with Halloween and apart from the odd outfit you wouldn’t know that there was a theme never mind heavily themed as was stated on the show. It was tame in comparison with the competing Strictly Come Dancing Halloween show and in that respect disappointing.

Most of the acts were not a disappointment if you can forget the theme. Following is my personal opinion of the remaining acts

Aiden Grimshaw

Sang his own version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller which I did not like at all. I have enjoyed his act on previous shows, but this didn’t gel with me. Some of the judges were going on about him being too intense, to me that’s rubbish, intensity his part of his style and I don’t think he should change, just be careful what he picks to sing.

Belle Amie

Performed Venus from Bananrama – or to be fair Shocking Pink. They sang it ok but to be honest I’ve seen pub groups sing it better. Despite that I still think they put on a good show and didn’t deserve to go when you think that Wagner is still in.

Cher Lloyd

Ended the show with Stay from the Shakespeare Sisters and what a finale. I liked Cher’s rapping when I first saw her but I was getting bored with watching her. This week she left the rapping out and we got to hear her just sing and it was wonderful. In my opinion she should continue to sing instead of rap and give herself more chance of reaching the finals.

Katie Waissel

Sang Bewitched from Steve Lawrence and ended up in the bottom 2 again. It was a good performance but I think that Katie would excel in musicals and not as a recording artist.

Mary Byrne

Barry Manilow’s Could It Be Magic was Mary’s choice. She sang it really well proving that she can sing more up tempo tracks. I think that she needs to update herself more to have a chance to stay in until the end.

Matt Cardell

Sang the Leona Lewis track Bleeding Love, but not as well as in previous weeks. I love listening to Matt and think he will probably get through to the finals, but he is getting too same as for me and I would like to see him doing something in a different style.

One Direction

The last band in now sang Total Eclipse Of The Heart from Bonnie Tyler. We keep getting told how good they are but so far they haven’t stood out for me. This week’s performance was the best so far from them but I doubt anybody will ever sing Total Eclipse anywhere near as well as Bonnie Tyler.

Paije Richardson

Paije sang Back To Black from Amy Winehouse and started to show that he is a real contender. This guy has improved every week and I hope he goes all the way because I love his voice and think that he is capable of great things if he is given time to learn and improve.

Rebecca Ferguson

Wicked Game from Chris Isaac was Rebecca’s number. As usual Rebecca was awesome. She was called world class by Simon Cowell and I have to agree. Like Matt she is getting a bit same as but in her case I don’t think I could ever get bored listening to her.

Treyc Cohen

Sang Relight My Fire from Take That well but I preferred her performance on the Led Zeppelin number last week.

Wagner Carrilho

Started with Oh Fortuna and then went into Bat Out Of Hell from Meatloaf bizarrely. How on earth he got through to the live shows I don’t know. I cringe every time he is on and wish that the public would stop voting for him and then a more talented act would get to stay in a bit longer. Maybe a better choice for him would have been Monster Mash

Who do I think will win?

At this stage it looks like either Rebecca, Matt or Cher, but secretly I want Paije to win because apart from making me smile with his freshness I think that he could be a bigger star than any of the rest given time and the right training.
